Bruner Scores 24 in Denver's Loss to Oral Roberts

Golden Eagles push away in second half

DENVER, CO --Tommy Bruner scored 24 points, but the Denver men's basketball team fell to the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles 80-62 at home Saturday.

The Pioneers (10-6, 1-2) had two players score in double figures, led by Bruner, who had 24 points and four assists. Touko Tainamo tacked on 10 points and Tyree Corbett added four points, 11 rebounds and two blocks.

Corbett pulled down five offensive rebounds to pace the Denver offense which grabbed 11 boards and turned them into 12 second chance points.

How It Happened

After falling behind 21-9, Denver went on a 10-0 run with 7:06 left in the first half to narrow its deficit to 21-19. Oral Roberts answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Pioneers down 29-25 entering halftime.

Oral Roberts kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 55-37 advantage before Denver went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Bruner's layup, to shrink the deficit to 55-44 with 8:54 to go in the contest. Oral Roberts responded and outscored the Pioneers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 80-62. Denver took care of business in the paint, recording 20 of its 37 points in the lane.

» Denver lost despite a 40-34 rebounding advantage.

» Denver cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 11 offensive boards in the game.
» Tommy Bruner led the Pioneers with a game-high 24 points, his fifth game with at least 20 this year.
