Denver's Second-Half Rally Falls Short in Loss at St. Thomas

Corbett records fifth double-double of the year in loss

SAINT PAUL, MN --Tyree Corbett collected a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds, but the Denver men's basketball team fell to the St. Thomas Tommies 81-71 on the road Thursday.

The Pioneers (10-7, 1-3) had three players score in double figures, led by Corbett, who recorded a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Tommy Bruner tacked on 18 points and six assists and Lukas Kisunas helped out with 10 points and six rebounds.

Denver out-rebounded St. Thomas 33-29 in Thursday's game, led by Corbett's 13 boards. The Pioneers also grabbed 11 offensive rebounds and scored 10 second chance points.

Denver did a great job disrupting St. Thomas shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Corbett's one rejection led the way individually for the Pioneers.

How It Happened

Denver struggled out of the gate, falling behind 47-25 heading into halftime.

After intermission, Denver kept the Tommies from increasing their lead before going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Kisunas' layup, to shrink the deficit to 70-57 with 6:13 to go in the contest. The Pioneers kept their comeback going, but St. Thomas managed to hold on for the 81-71 win. Denver took care of business in the paint, recording 28 of its 46 points in the lane.

» Tyree Corbett notched a double-double for the Pioneers with 19 points and 13 rebounds, his league-leading fifth of the year. 
» Tommy Bruner continued his solid play, finishing with 18 points and a game-high six assists.
