MACOMB, IL --The Denver men's basketball team knocked down 5-of-11 attempts from three-point range, shooting 45.5 percent from deep in a 91-74 loss to the Western Illinois Leathernecks on the road Saturday.
The Pioneers (10-8, 1-4) had four players score in double figures, led by Touko Tainamo, who had 19 points and eight rebounds. Tommy Bruner tacked on 19 points and four assists and Tyree Corbett helped out with 16 points and two blocks from the bench.
Denver out-rebounded Western Illinois 37-31 in Saturday's game, led by Tainamo's eight boards. The Pioneers also pulled down 11 offensive rebounds and scored nine second chance points.
How It Happened
Denver struggled out of the gate, falling behind 37-25 heading into halftime.
Western Illinois kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 40-25 advantage before Denver went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Tainamo's layup, to shrink the deficit to 40-32 with 18:01 to go in the contest. Western Illinois responded and outscored the Pioneers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 91-74.
