Denver Falls in Overtime to Sacramento State on Buzzer-Beater

Pioneers Six-Game Winning Snapped in Heartbreaker

SACRAMENTO, CA --The Denver men's basketball team fell to the Sacramento State Hornets 87-85 on the road Wednesday on Zach Chappell's buzzer-beating shot with just two seconds left in the game.

The Pioneers (8-2) had four players score in double figures, led by Tommy Bruner, who had 26 points and six assists. Lukas Kisunas added 15 points and Justin Mullins helped out with 12 points and two steals.

Led by Kisunas' two offensive rebounds, Denver did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 11 boards that resulted in 15 second chance points.

How It Happened

Denver started out the scoring by going on a 10-0 run, culminating in a bucket from Ben Bowen, to take an early lead with 14:15 left in the first half. Sacramento State then responded to tie things up at 33-33 heading into halftime. Denver got the job done in the paint in the first half, scoring 26 of its 33 points close to the basket.

Sacramento State then snagged a 67-60 advantage before Denver responded by going on an 11-0 run to seize a 71-67 lead with 28 seconds to go in the contest. The Hornets then fought back to even things up at 71-71 and send the game to overtime. Denver took care of business in the paint, recording 20 of its 38 points in the lane.

Sacramento State then edged ahead in overtime, leaving Denver behind 87-85 at the final buzzer.
