DENVER – University of Denver Skiing announced today that its annual meet has been moved to venues closer to the Front Range and on new dates. The Pioneers will now host the final alpine RMISA competition of the regular season on Feb. 17-18 at Copper Mountain Resort and at Keystone Resort on Feb. 21.
DU was originally scheduled to host two days of giant slalom and one day of slalom racing at Aspen Highlands Ski Area from Feb. 18-20.
The competition begins at Copper Mountain with a RMISA Alpine Qualifier race in the giant slalom on Thursday, Feb. 18. The Denver Invitational begins the following day with another GS race on Friday, Feb. 19. Courses will be set at Copper Mountain's East Village on the Alpine Tech Center venue, which provides a technical gradient for giant slalom racing on Andy's Encore and Ore Deal trails. Copper Mountain is an official training center for U.S. Ski and Snowboard.
Denver and the other RMISA schools will close the DU Invite with the slalom portion at Keystone Resort on Monday, Feb. 21.
Spectators are invited to attend all three days and watch from the bottom of the race courses, though a ski pass to Keystone may be required for the slalom on Feb. 21.
Free parking is available at Copper at the nearby Alpine Parking Lot, which is just a short walk or shuttle ride to the race venue at the East Village.
More details on the slalom event at Keystone will be announced closer to race day. Starting times of each run will also be released closer to the competition, though Run 1 will be in the morning and Run 2 will be mid-day to early afternoon.
This year's Denver Invitational is an alpine-only meet to accommodate the Nordic-only Alaska Fairbanks Nanook Invitational that took place on Feb. 1-2.
