Denver Earns 6-1 Road Win at Air Force

Pioneers take doubles point and five of six singles matches in convincing win over I-25 neighbors

DENVER – The University of Denver men's tennis team (4-1) won its third-straight match in a 6-1 defeat of Air Force (7-4) on Friday night at the Cadet Tennis Courts.
 
Doubles:
The 19th-ranked doubles tandem of James Davis and Matt Summers took care of business on court one to get Denver started on the right foot, winning their match 6-2 to progress to 4-1 on the season.
 
Air Force evened things up on court two before Denver won a dramatic tiebreaker 12-10 on court three as Nicolas Herrero Cuesta and Mattia Ros improved to 3-1 on the season to clinch the doubles point for the Pioneers.
 
Singles:
Summit League Men's Tennis Player of the Week Herrero Cuesta improved to 4-1 on the season in short order, taking his match in straight-sets 6-1, 6-0.
 
Air Force made it 2-1 with a win on court four, allowing courts five and six to start at the four-court Academy indoor facility.
 
Davis made it 3-1 Denver with a straight-set victory of his own, winning 6-3, 7-6 (5). Davis' victory on the top court improved his record to 3-1 on the season.
 
Summers needed three sets, albeit quick ones, to improve to 5-0 on the season and clinch the match for the Pioneers on court three with a 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 victory.
 
Charlie Miller was the next Pioneer over the finish line, staying perfect in two singles appearances on court six this season with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over his opponent.
 
Peter Sallay made it 6-1 Pios on court five, taking his third win of the season 6-4, 6-3.
 
UP NEXT: Denver returns home next week for a pair of matches, starting Thursday when the Pioneers square of with Wichita State at 12 p.m. MT. Denver will then take on Metro State Saturday at 1:30 p.m. MT.
