WHO: No. 12 Denver vs. Iowa State
WHAT: Winterfest Weekend & Big 12 Conference competition
WHERE: Magness Arena (Denver, Colo.)
WHEN: Sunday, February 13, at 2:00 p.m. MT
Â
LAST TIME OUT:
Denver returned home to host New Hampshire on Sunday, February 6, topping UNH 196.125-193.625. DU swept the individual titles with sophomore
Jessica Hutchinson capturing wins in the all-around and on beam and floor. Graduate student
Mia Sundstrom won the first vault title of her career while fellow graduate student
Emily Glynn won her second bars title of 2022.
Â
EYE ON THE RANKINGS:
DU sits at No. 12 in the Road to Nationals rankings after five weeks of competition and is yet again ranked in the top 10 on both vault and bars. The team is just outside the top 10 on beam, claiming the No. 11 spot and is also ranked No. 17 on floor.
Â
Hutchinson enters the rankings for the first time this year, earning a tie for No. 12 on floor, a tie for No. 13 on beam and a tie for No. 18 in the all-around.
Â
QUICK HITS:
- DU will continue to test its depth and give student-athletes valuable competition experience on Sunday. Junior Emma Brown returned to the beam lineup last weekend, and freshman Momoko Iwai made her second vault lineup of the year.
- Despite the shuffled lineups, Denver was able to add three exhibition performances against New Hampshire: sophomore Rosie Casali on bars, junior Callie Schlottman on beam and Emma Brown on floor.
- So far in 2022, 13 of DU's 14 student-athletes have competed in at least two meets.
- Denver's sweep of the event titles last weekend against New Hampshire marked the second time in 2022 that DU has accomplished the feat, first doing so at West Virginia on January 15.
- For the third year in a row, DU will host a gymnastics meet on Super Bowl Sunday – with competition again expected to wrap up before the football game begins.
SCOUTING THE CYCLONES:
Iowa State did not compete last week but registered a season-high 196.225 at home against West Virginia in its most recent meet on January 28. The team sits at No. 23 in the national vault rankings this week. Maddie Diab is ISU's highest-ranked student-athlete, coming in tied for No. 38 on floor.
Â
WHAT'S NEXT:
Denver travels to Fort Worth for a Big 12 vs. Pac-12 showdown at the Metroplex Challenge on Saturday, February 19. Joining DU will be No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 19 Stanford and Washington.
Â
DU will return home on Sunday, February 27, for a competition of Colorado's NCAA teams when Air Force comes to Magness Arena.
