VERMILLION, S.D. – The University of Denver women's basketball team dropped an 81-53 game to South Dakota on Saturday afternoon at the Samford Coyote Sports Center.
Inside the Box Score:
Uju Ezeudu led the Pioneers with 15 points to go with seven rebounds, three assists and a block.
Indeya Sanders also finished in double figures with 10, paired with three assists, three rebounds and a block.
Cheyenne Forney chipped in eight points and seven rebounds.
First Quarter:
South Dakota raced out to a 20-6 lead in the opening 10 minutes, shooting 50-percent from the field, while limiting the Pioneers to 3-for-14.
Makayla Minett was the bright spot for the Pioneers in the first quarter, going 2-for-2 from the field, pulling down three rebounds and blocking a shot.
Second Quarter:
The Coyotes offense stayed hot in the second quarter, shooting 11-for-18 from the floor, and using a 7-0 run to extend their lead late in the quarter. Ezeudu had 11 of her 15 points in the second quarter on 4-of-5 shooting. USD took a 45-23 lead into the locker room.
Third Quarter:
Denver's defense held USD to just 14 points in the third quarter and Ezeudu found the bottom of the net for four more points coming out of halftime. Five different Pioneers scored in the period, but USD had a 23-point lead heading into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter:
Sanders had six of her 10 in the fourth to reach double figures for the Pioneers, a quarter that saw the Pioneers shoot 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.
Notes:
- Uju Ezeudu finished in double figures for the 10th-straight game, the 24th time this season and the 58th time in her career.
- Indeya Sanders finished in double figures for the sixth time this season and the 26th time in her career.
What's Next:
Denver will close out the regular season on a three-game homestand, starting with next Saturday's contest against Omaha. Tip is set for 2 p.m. MT. The Pioneers can clinch a Summit League Tournament berth with a win in Hamilton Gymnasium next weekend.
