DENVER – The University of Denver men's tennis team (2-1) defeated Northern Arizona (4-1) 5-2 on Friday night at the Denver Tennis Park.
Doubles:
Northern Arizona grabbed the doubles point, taking courts one and three sandwiched around a 6-4 for win for doubles tandem
Charlie Miller and
Peter Sallay, who played their first match of the season together tonight.
Singles:
Nicolas Herrero Cuesta got Denver on the board with his second-straight win, taking his No. 2 singles match 6-2, 6-1.
Matt Summers' straight-set finish made it 2-1 to Denver, a 6-3, 6-3 decision.
James Davis' second win of the season on Denver's top court made it 3-1 Pioneers, a straight-set victory for the grad student at 6-3, 6-3.
Northern Arizona cut the Denver lead to 3-2 on No. 4 singles, but Miller picked up his second win of the night in his season debut to clinch the Pioneers' second win of the season, a 7-6 (4), 6-4 straight-set victory.
Coming off a Summit League Player of the Week honor after the Pioneers opener,
Daniel Krulig earned Denver's fifth and final point of the night in a third-set retirement (6-4, 1-6, 4-3).
UP NEXT: Denver will take on Nebraska on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. MT to close out its three-match homestand.
