Bobby Brink Named NCHC Player of the Month for February

Denver hockey forward had 15 points in eight games

DENVER – Junior Bobby Brink of the University of Denver hockey team has been named the NCHC Player of the Month for February, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Brink, the nation's leading scorer, recorded 15 points (5g/10a) in the eight games in February, helping the Pioneers to a 5-3-0 record and a No. 3 national ranking.

The forward registered points in seven of the eight contests, which included parts of a 13-game assist streak (ended on Feb. 19) and 14-game point streak (ended on Feb. 25), both career longs. It was the longest consecutive game stretch by a Denver player with at least a point since Danton Heinen had an 18-game run from Jan. 22 to March 27, 2016 (14g/20a).

The Minnetonka, Minnesota, native began the month with a career-high five points on Feb. 4 vs. St. Cloud State, recording a goal and four assists. It was the second-most points in a game by a Pioneer this season (Carter Savoie, 3g/3a, Oct. 16 vs. Air Force) and the four helpers were the most in a contest by a DU skater since Troy Terry also recorded four on March 2, 2018.

Brink scored the game-winning goal on Feb. 18 at Western Michigan, his first of the season, and then added two tallies the following night against the Broncos for his first multi-goal outing of the campaign. He scored his first career short-handed marker on Feb. 19 at WMU. His performance in Kalamazoo was part of five-point weekend (3g/2a), helping him earn his first career NCHC Forward of the Week award on Feb. 21.

The right wing was the first player in the country to reach 50 points this year as he's recorded 13 goals and 37 assists in 32 games. He also leads the NCAA in assists and points per game (1.56). His 50 points are the most by a Denver player since Henrik Borgstrom had 52 in 2017-18, and his 37 assists are the most since Matt Carle had 42 in his Hobey Baker-winning campaign of 2005-06.

This is Brink's first NCHC Player of the Month award and his third monthly honor from the conference as he was twice named Rookie of the Month as a freshman in 2019-20 (October and January). He is the fifth Pioneer this season to be recognized by the NCHC in its monthly accolades, joining Magnus Chrona (January Goaltender of the Month), Brett Stapley (December Player of the Month), Carter Mazur (November and December Rookie of the Month) and Massimo Rizzo (October Rookie of the Month).

Brink is now eligible for the Hockey Commissioners' Association (HCA) National Player of the Month award, which will be announced on Thursday.

UP NEXT: The No. 3 Pioneers wrap up the regular season this weekend with a home-and-home series against Colorado College. The teams first meet in Colorado Springs on Friday at 7:30 p.m. MT before wrapping up the weekend on Saturday at 7 p.m. MT at Magness Arena.
