Behrins Becomes Eighth Pio to 200 in No. 9 Denver’s Midweek Win

The Pioneers used 12 goals in the middle quarters to defeat Fairfield 15-10 on Tuesday

DENVER – Graduate student Bea Behrins had a career-high 10 points to lead the No. 9 University of Denver women's lacrosse team to a 15-10 victory over Fairfield on Tuesday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.

Behrins moved her career point total to 201, making her the eighth Pioneer in Denver's program history to eclipse 200 points.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
The Denver grad student had a game-high seven goals to go with three assists in the win, her first sock trick since March 21 of last year against Butler, and the third of her career.

Kayla DeRose and Sloane Kipp rounded out Denver's multi-goal scorers with two apiece. DeRose added an assist for a three-point day and Kipp's goals were the first two of her collegiate career.

Lauren Black added a goal and two assists for a three-point day as well.

Despite giving up double digit goals for the first time this season, Denver's defense continued to disrupt the opposition, forcing 16 caused turnovers. Bryn McCaughey, Anna Palmisano and Sammie Morton all had three caused turnovers apiece, while Bea Behrins and Sam Thacker rounded out Denver's multi CT performances with a pair apiece.

Abby Jenkins controlled the circle with a career-high 11 draw controls.

Fairfield scored half its goals from the free position arc, including three in the first half.

FIRST QUARTER:
Fairfield raced out to an early 3-0 lead, while the Stags defense held Denver without a goal in the first 13:39.

Behrins first goal came at the 1:21 mark to break the run and send the Pioneers into the second quarter only down by two.

SECOND QUARTER:
Fairfield got two of the next three to push its lead to 5-2, before Denver responded with a 11-3 run in the middle quarters to overturn the Stags lead into a five-goal advantage for the Pioneers.

Behrins 24th and 25th of the season sandwiched around Kipp's first career goal kickstarted the Pioneers run. A few minutes later Behrins and Black had back-to-back tallies to tie things back up for the first time at 6-6.

Fairfield made it 7-6 with 6:37 to play in the half before Mollie Estepp's first career tally and Behrins fifth of the game gave Denver its first lead with six seconds to play in the half.

THIRD QUARTER:
Denver scored five of the six goals in the third quarter to take a five-goal advantage into the final 15 minutes. Julia Gilbert, Behrins, Addy Caulk, Kayla DeRose and Kipp all tallied for the Pioneers. Behrins had two assists in the run, including her 200th career point.

FOURTH QUARTER:
DeRose and Behrins found twine for the Pioneers to round out the 15-10 win to even out a 2-2 quarter.

UP NEXT: Denver will have 10 days off before heading to San Diego to take on Drexel (March 25/1 p.m. MT) and San Diego State (March 27/1 p.m. MT).
