LAS VEGAS – The [69] University of Denver men's tennis team (9-6) earned the crucial doubles point and controlled the momentum in singles to earn a 4-1 victory over UNLV (8-9) on Thursday night at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
Doubles:
Denver earned the doubles point with wins on the top two courts.
James Davis and
Nico Herrero Cuesta earned a 6-3 win on court one, while
Matt Summers and
Charlie Miller took the decisive court two by a score of 6-2.
With the doubles-clinching win, Summers moved into second all-time in career wins with his 165
th career win.
Singles:
Peter Sallay made it 2-0 Pioneers with a straight-set win on court four, winning 6-2, 7-6 (7-0).
UNLV cut it to 2-1 Pios with a win on court five before
Daniel Krulig stretched the lead back out to two with a 6-1, 6-3 lead on court six.
Summers clinched the match for Denver with a 7-6 (2), 6-1 win on court three to send the Pioneers to 9-6 on the season.
On the unfinished courts, Davis and Cuesta earn won their first sets but the matches went unfinished.
UP NEXT: Denver will begin Summit League play on Sunday, starting with a match-up with North Dakota at 10 a.m. MT at the Denver Tennis Park.
