[46] Denver Earns Big Home Win Over [61] Gonzaga

Without one of their top singles players and half of the No. 1 doubles tandem, Pioneers earn 4-3 win over nationally-ranked team

DENVER – The [46] University of Denver men's tennis team (6-5) won the doubles point and split the singles matches with [61] Gonzaga to take a 4-3 win over the Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon at the Denver Tennis Park.

Doubles:
Denver was without one of its top singles players and half its top doubles team with the absence of graduate-student James Davis on Sunday. His absence caused a shakeup in the doubles pairings, but the Pioneers claimed the all-important doubles point with wins on courts two and three.

Matt Summers and Charlie Miller took court two with a 6-3 victory in their first match together. Daniel Krulig and Nicolas Herrero Cuesta clinched the doubles point on court three, winning a tiebreaker 7-4.

Singles:
Herrero Cuesta improved to 8-2 on the season with a straight-set win atop Denver's lineup, taking his match 6-2, 6-4. The Denver sophomore is 2-1 on Denver's top court this season.

Peter Sallay evened up his singles record at 5-5 on the year, coming from a set down to win on court three by a count of 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Krulig wrapped-up a two-point afternoon with his straight-set win on court six, taking his match 7-5, 6-1 to improve to 3-4 on the year.

UP NEXT: Denver heads to Boise, Idaho, for a pair of matches next weekend when the Pioneers take on the host Broncos on Friday at 5 p.m. MT, before taking on Loyola Marymount in a neutral site match on Saturday at 12 p.m. MT.
