DENVER – The [65] University of Denver men's tennis team won its 20
th-straight Summit League regular season match to cap a perfect 2022 league regular season with a 6-1 victory over Illinois State on Saturday afternoon at the Denver Tennis Park. Prior to the match, the Pioneers honored their four seniors.
Doubles:
The Pioneers took the doubles point with wins on courts one and two.
Charlie Miller and
Daniel Krulig won 6-0 on the second court to get things started for Denver.
James Davis and
Matt Summers wrapped up the point on the top court with a 6-4 win. Summers and Davis are now 12-3 together this season, entering the postseason on a seven-match winning streak.
Singles:
Denver earned its singles points on courts 2-5 in the three-point victory. Davis dropped down to the No. 2 spot in the singles lineup on Saturday, and cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory. The Denver grad student is now 11-5 in singles play.
Summers won his 10
th-straight singles match on court three on Saturday to improve to 16-4 on the year, taking his match 7-5, 6-4.
Peter Sallay dropped just a game in his straight-set victory, taking it 6-1, 6-0, improving to 10-8 on the year.
Daniel Krulig went to 9-6 on the year, winning his third-set tiebreaker 10-7 after winning the opening set in a tiebreaker before dropping the second.
UP NEXT: Denver and Illinois State will open the Summit League Tournament against each other again in the semifinal on Friday at 2 p.m. MT in Omaha at the Koch Family Tennis Center
