OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Denver women's tennis team won its eighth straight Summit League Tournament title after sweeping South Dakota 4-0 in Saturday's final.
 
Denver has now won 10 conference tournament titles: each of the Summit League Tournament championships since 2014 and two more in the Sun Belt (2004, 2008).
 
Due to weather conditions, matches were moved indoors to Miracle Hill Golf & Tennis Center.
 
Doubles:
Denver opened play by winning the doubles point, beginning with Britt Pursell and Camille Verden-Anderson's 6-1 victory on court one. Toni Nelson and Taylor Melville used a late break on court two to win 6-4 and give DU a 1-0 overall lead.
 
Both teams finished undefeated in Summit League play this year.
 
Singles:
Nelson set the tone early in singles, winning the first singles point with a double bagel on court six.
 
Pursell's second win of the day came on court three in just under an hour with only three games lost, finishing 6-1 6-2.
 
Less than a minute later, Andrea Burguete Beltran clinched the victory for Denver with a 6-2 6-0 win on court five.
 
Both Nelson and Burguete Beltran finished with perfect 8-0 records in league play, and Pursell's win on Saturday was also her eighth of the season in the Summit League.
