Eleven Different Pios Score in [19/19] Denver’s 16-3 Win at PC

The Pioneers will close the regular season at home against Marquette on Friday night at 7 p.m. MT

DENVER – The [19/19] University of Denver men's lacrosse team defeated Providence 16-3 on Saturday at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. Denver had 11 different goal scorers and goalies Jack Thompson and Cole French combined for 13 saves against just three goals allowed in the victory.
 
Inside the Box Score:
JJ Sillstrop led the Pioneers with a hat trick and a helper for a four-point afternoon. Jack Hannah (2-1), Noah Manning (2-0) and Johnny Marrocco (2-0) rounded out Denver's multi goal scorers as the Pios improved to 3-1 in BIG EAST play.
 
Thompson had 11 of Denver's 13 saves in cage for the Pios.
 
First Quarter:
Denver's offense got off to a strong start in the opening five minutes, scoring three times on its first five possessions to take a 3-0 lead into the second quarter. Ted Sullivan opened the scoring for Denver for the second-straight game, followed by goals from Marrocco and Hannah.
 
Second Quarter:
The Pioneers extended its run to 5-0 to start the game with Sillstrop's first of three and Manning's first inside the opening 5:11 of the quarter.
 
Providence's first goal of the game came 21:24 into the contest, one of three 17+ minute scoreless stretches Denver's defense posted in the game.
 
Third Quarter:
Denver scored four of the five goals in the third quarter. Sillstrop completed his hat trick, scoring on either side of Providence's only tally of the period with 2:39 to go.
 
Marracco and Manning had the Pioneers other two strikes to take a 9-2 lead into the final quarter at the Chap.
 
Fourth Quarter:
The Pioneers scored the first seven of the final quarter from seven different players. Hannah netted his second of the day 43 seconds into the fourth, followed by goals from Sam Dwinell (13:19), Alex Simmons (12:00), Andrew Atchison (8:30), Jack Tuttle (8:02), Joe Taraboletti (8:02) and Michael Lampert (3:11) to cap an 11-1 run for Matt Brown's offense.
 
Notes
  • Denver improved to 42-3 in BIG EAST regular season play.
  • The Pioneers have had at least 10 different goal scorers 27 times since Matt Brown took over the Denver offense in 2008., including 21 times since the start of the 2015 campaign.
  • DU has had 26 runs of 10-1 or better under head coach Bill Tierney
