[19/18] Denver Tops Marquette In-Front of Second-Largest Crowd at PBLS

Graduate student Jack Hannah became the fastest midfielder to 100 career goals in program history in his final game at Peter Barton

DENVER – The [19/18] University of Denver men's lacrosse team doubled up Marquette by a count of 16-8 in-front of a sold-out crowd of 2,969 Friday night at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.

Inside the Box Score:
Jack Hannah, who became the fastest midfielder in program history to score 100 career goals, had a hat trick and two assists for a team-high five points. Alex Simmons also had a hat trick to go with a helper for a four-point night. Johnny Marrocco, Ted Sullivan and Richie Connell rounded out Denver's multi-goal scorers, giving the Pioneers five multi goal scorers for the 20th time since the start of the 2014 season.

Including tonight, Denver has had at least nine different goal scorers in four-consecutive games.

Jack Thompson had another double-digit save performance for the Pioneers, stopping 13 shots, including seven in the fourth quarter.

Denver's defense fueled the first-half seven-goal margin, allowing just 13 shots and five shots on goal in the opening 30 minutes.

First Quarter:
Marquette scored the opening goal on the game's first possession, but the Pioneers reeled off the final five goals in the quarter and 10 of the next 11 in the game to blow the game open in the first half.

Ted Sullivan scored Denver's first goal of the game for the fourth-straight contest, his 22nd of the season. Marrocco scored both of his goals in the first quarter, sandwiched around a rare 6-on-6 pole goal from Ryan Giles to make it 4-1 Denver with 9:16 to play.

Simmons got his 22nd of the season to match Sullivan's season output with 5:17 left, the final goal of the quarter.

Second Quarter:
Sullivan opened the second quarter scoring, followed by a goal from Curtis to stretch the lead to 7-1. Following Marquette's first goal in nearly 17 minutes, Hannah, Sam Dwinell and Simmons found the back of the net to cushion the lead to eight goals in the final two minutes of the half.

Marquette got the final goal with 1:09 to go to cut the Pioneers lead to 10-3 at the break.

Third Quarter:
Marquette turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, limiting the Pioneers to just two goals in the quarter, but the Pioneers defense continued its lights out first three quarters, blanking the Golden Eagles in the stanza.

Denver's goals came from Simmons and Hannah to extend the lead further to 12-3 through 45 minutes of play.

Fourth Quarter:
Marquette scored five of the first six goals in the fourth to get as close as five at 13-8, but a pair of goals down the stretch from Connell and a rebound tally from Andrew Atchison gave Denver a 16-8 win.
