Bobby Brink Named First Team All-American

Denver hockey forward leads the nation in scoring, was top-three finalist for the Hobey Baker Award

BOSTON – University of Denver hockey forward Bobby Brink was named a First-Team All-American (West) by the American Hockey Coaches Association on Friday.

Brink, 20, leads the nation with a career-high 57 points and 43 assists, the most at DU since Gabe Gauthier also had 57 points in 2004-05 and Dave Shields had 43 assists in 1989-90.  The junior is also first in the country in points per game (1.43), and he is just the second Pioneer to lead the NCAA in scoring and the first since Ed Beers in 1981-82.  Brink is one of two players in the nation to reach the 50-point threshold and was the first to achieve the feat with an assist on Feb. 26 at Omaha.

He is the 48th All-American in program history and the first since Ian Mitchell in 2020.

One of three Hobey Baker Hat Trick finalists as college hockey's most outstanding player, Brink has registered 48 points (11g/37a) in the last 32 games.  He had the primary assist on the overtime-winning goal on Thursday as the Pioneers defeated the Michigan Wolverines in the NCAA Frozen Four, securing the team's spot in Saturday's national championship game.

The Minnetonka, Minnesota, native gained 35 (9g/26a) of his 56 points during conference play, the most in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference and was later named both the NCHC Player and Forward of the Year.  He was also the only unanimous selection for the 2021-22 All-NCHC First Team.

Brink was recognized as both the NCHC and the Hockey Commissioners' Association's National Player of the Month for February after totaling 15 points (5g/10a) in eight games.  Brink recorded a career-long 14-game point streak (7g/21a) from Dec. 31-Feb. 19, the longest by a Denver player since Danton Heinen had an 18-game run from Jan. 22-March 27, 2017 (14g/20a).  He picked up at least one assist in each of the first 13 games of the streak, also a personal best.

Selected in the second round (34th overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers, Brink has recorded 92 points (27g/65a) and owns a 1.12 points-per-game average in 82 career games.

Majoring in business administration with an emphasis in business analytics, Brink has been named to the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team and has been recognized as an NCHC Distinguished-Scholar Athlete in each of his three years at DU.  To be eligible for the Distinguished Scholar-Athlete award, a player must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better.
