Denver Women's Soccer Wins 2-0 Over Weber State on Sunday

DU notches second shutout in as many matches to begin 2022 season

DENVER – The University of Denver women's soccer team shutout Weber State 2-0 on Sunday to earn its second win of opening weekend.

Junior McKenna Dannenhauer and senior Kaitlyn Glover had Denver's two goals while redshirt senior Nerea Arrazola made three saves to seal her second straight shutout.

SIGNIFICANT STATS:

  • Sophomore Jadyn Goodrich had an assist on Dannenhauer's first-half goal. She now has three points on the season after posting Denver's only goal in Thursday's season opener.
  • For the second match in a row, graduate student Sami Feller tallied an assist, also helping on Dannenhauer's goal.
  • Arrazola and graduate student Devan McSwain both played the full 90 minutes and are the only two Pioneers to do so through two matches this season.
  • Six DU student-athletes tallied shots including four for the first time in 2022: Glover, sophomores Ella Frost and Blythe Sales, and junior Addisyn Hyrup.
  • Denver went 144 minutes allowing its first shot on target of the year; and through two matches played, Denver has yet to give up a corner kick.

FIRST HALF:
Denver got pressure on early to start the game with Frost posting the first of her three shots on target in the game's second minute. Dannenhauer would give Denver the early lead in the eighth minute off feeds from Feller and Goodrich.

The score would remain 1-0 through the end of the half without DU allowing a single shot.

SECOND HALF:
The first two shots on the second half came from Weber State, both saved by Arrazola. Feller tallied her second shot on goal of the game in the 70th minute before Glover put Denver up 2-0 in the 76th minute with assists from Frost and Hyrup.

WHAT'S NEXT:
DU travels to Utah on Thursday, August 25, for its first road match and first Power-5 matchup on the season. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. MT.

The Pioneers return home on Sunday, August 28, to host Arizona State at 12 p.m.
