Denver Hockey Raising 2022 Championship Banner Oct. 22

The Pioneers won their record-tying ninth national championship in April

DENVER – The University of Denver hockey program announced today that the team will raise its 2022 NCAA National Championship banner on Saturday, Oct. 22 prior to the Pioneers' game against Providence College.

Game time is slated for approximately 6:05 p.m. MT at Magness Arena, and fans are encouraged to show up early to watch the on-ice ceremony.

Denver's homecoming weekend will also take place on Oct. 21-22, with a variety of activities planned on campus.

The Pioneers claimed their ninth national championship with a 5-1 victory against Minnesota State in the NCAA title game on April 9 in Boston, Massachusetts. Denver came back from a 1-0 deficit after the second period with five unanswered goals, as Ryan Barrow scored the game-tying goal at 4:46 of the third period to spark the rally and Mike Benning netted the eventual game-winner less than three minutes later.

DU's nine national championships are tied with the University of Michigan for the most in Division-I men's ice hockey. The Pioneers defeated the Michigan Wolverines 3-2 in overtime in the Frozen Four on April 7 to advance to the championship game. Overall, the University of Denver has won 34 national titles in hockey, skiing and men's lacrosse.

The game against Providence will be the second half of a back-to-back set, as the Pioneers and Friars will begin their non-conference series on Friday, Oct. 21 at 7:05 p.m. MT.
