Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Niko Blankenship

10-Man [11/12] Denver Falls to Oregon State, 2-1

The Pioneers will round out their season-long three-match homestand on Saturday when Denver welcomes Oral Roberts in its Summit League opener (7 p.m.)

DENVER – The [11/12] University of Denver men's soccer program went down to 10-men in the first half and eventually fell to Oregon State 2-1 on Tuesday night at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.

JACK AND SHEILA WEINBERG HEAD MEN'S SOCCER COACH JAMIE FRANKS:
"I was really proud of the group's grit, their collectiveness and their proactiveness in the game tonight. When you go into the locker room and you have guys that believe in eachother and believe in themselves, you can get results. We came out and took the lead, and it took two great goals from their centerback to win the game. Other than that, I thought we did well defensively and didn't give up too much. We had our moments at the end and just couldn't capitalize."

SIGNIFICANT STATS:
-          Oje Ofunrein netted his first collegiate goal to open the scoring in the 51st minute
-          Ronan Wynne's assist on Ofunrein's opener was his second of the season, and the third of his career.
-          The Crimson and Gold are now 2-2-2 against teams that finished in the top-100 of the RPI a year ago.
-          Denver fell to 18-1-3 when scoring first since the start of the 2012 season.
-          The Pioneers are now 3-5-2 in matches where a player is sent off since the start of the 2012 season.

KEY MOMENTS:
19' – Stefan DeLeone got the first shot on goal of the evening, but his shot from a tight angle was saved comfortably by the Oregon State keeper.
22' – Oregon State had the good portion of the possession in the opening 45 minutes, but didn't get its first shot on goal until the 22nd minute when Clarence Awoudor fired one at Isaac Nehme 's goal, who made the save.
41' – Lucas Russo was sent off in the 41st minute for swatting a hand off his neck and making contact with an Oregon State player's neck.
Halftime
51' – Despite the Pios being down a man it was Denver that found the breakthrough through Oje Ofunrein's first career-goal, a header from just outside the six-yard box. Ronan Wynne dribbled through the midfield down the Denver right and played a dangerous cross into the area for the Denver striker to get on the end of.
60' – Nehme was called on to make another important stop just shy of the hour mark, diving to his left to stop Javier Armas' shot from outside the area.
68' – Armas did net the Oregon State equalizer on his fourth shot of the night, firing to the other post this time to finish the leveler.
80' – Armas capped off his brace with an 80th minute rocket from well outside the area to beat Nehme.
Fulltime
