Pioneers Take Down Hofstra 3-1; Push Win Streak to Three

Denver pushes winning streak to three

DENVER, CO --The Denver volleyball team fought back after losing set one to secure a 3-1 victory (14-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-12) against the Hofstra Pride Saturday at home at Hamilton Gymnasium, pushing its winning streak to three.

The out-of-conference win boosted the Pioneers' overall record to 3-3 on the season. 

Memphis Glasgow finished with 13 kills on the day to lead the Pioneers offense. got 11 digs from Gianna Bartalo along with 11 blocks from Cadi Boyer and eight rejections from MacKenzie Fidelak to lead them defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Pioneers found themselves in an early deficit, losing a tough first set 25-14. Denver trailed by as many as 12 points as Hofstra grabbed the advantage for good at 8-7 in a set that was tied up just once before the Pride took control.

SET 2 | Denver rallied after dropping the first set to take the second set 25-18, tying the match at 1-1. The Pioneers took control of the set lead early on at 2-1 and held the lead the rest of the way. Denver led by as many as nine points at 14-5 before finishing off the set. The Denver offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza. Denver's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Hofstra attacks in the stanza.

SET 3 | Denver grabbed another win in set three to make it a 2-1 match. The Pioneers took control of the set early when the score was 3-2 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-23. Denver led by nine points at 11-2 before closing out the stanza. Denver's front row had a standout defensive performance, blocking nine Hofstra attacks in the stanza and capitalizing on 10 Hofstra attacking errors on the way to victory.

SET 4 | Denver earned a match win with a 25-12 fourth-set victory, winning their third straight set. The Pioneers took control of the set at 3-2 and held the lead the rest of the way. Denver ended the stanza on a high note by opening up its biggest lead, 13 points, to close out the set. Denver also supplemented their offense with four aces in the set.
