DALLAS – The University of Denver men's tennis team began its 2023 season at (RV) Southern Methodist, falling 7-0 on Saturday.
Doubles:
SMU captured the doubles point with wins on Courts 1 and 3, though Denver's team of graduate student
Mitch Johnson and redshirt senior
Anish Sriniketh were up a break on Court 2 when the first two courts completed play.
Singles:
All six of DU's singles players put up a fight in their matches including junior
Nicolas Herrero Cuesta, who forced a third set on Court 1 after winning a second-set tiebreak but ultimately dropping a match tiebreak in the third.
On Court 2, sophomore
Daniel Sancho Arbizu kept the first set tight before giving up a late break to fall 5-7.
On the remaining four courts, DU's student-athletes came back to force tighter second sets after dropping their first sets.

DU returns to Denver for its first two home matches of the season, starting with hosting UC Davis on Friday, January 20, at 12 p.m. MT, followed by Rice on Sunday, January 22, at 10:30 a.m. MT. Both matches will be played at Denver Tennis Park.
