DU Begins LBSU Invitational with Four Wins

Denver earns two wins each in singles, doubles on Friday
LONG BEACH, California – The University of Denver women's tennis team began its 2023 season with two singles and two doubles wins on Day 1 of the Long Beach State Winter Invitational on Friday.
Sophomore Andrea Burguete Beltran and senior Britt Pursell each went undefeated on the day, starting with a 6-2 win together in doubles over Pacific's Main/Sam. Pursell lost just three games in her singles win against Chiho Mushika from San Francisco. Burguete Beltran won the first set against San Francisco's Maria Martinez Vaquero and then rebounded from a second-set loss to win 6-3 in the third.
Freshman Louise Wikander teamed up with Pacific's Miaangelina Ruja in doubles and captured a 6-3 win over Pacific's team of Zamora/Chao. The freshman forced a third set in her singles match against San Francisco's Hana Gamracy but ultimately lost the match.
The Long Beach State Winter Invitational continues on Saturday, January 21, with another round of doubles followed by a round of singles matches beginning at 10 a.m. PT/11 a.m. MT.
