BROOKINGS, SD --The Denver men's basketball team got a 26-point showing from the bench, but fell 76-61 to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits on the road Saturday.
The Pioneers (12-10, 3-6) had three players score in double figures, led by Touko Tainamo, who had 14 points and eight rebounds. Lukas Kisunas added 14 points and seven rebounds off of the bench and Tommy Bruner helped out with 11 points and four assists.
Denver pulled down 32 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to South Dakota State's 30, led by Tainamo's eight boards.
How It Happened
After falling behind 28-22, Denver went on an 8-0 run with 4:20 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Bruner, to take a 30-28 lead. The Pioneers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 37-34.
After intermission, Denver kept the Jackrabbits from increasing their lead before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Tainamo's three, to seize a 48-45 lead with 13:42 to go in the contest. South Dakota State re-asserted control, outscoring the Pioneers 31-13 the rest of the way to hand Denver the 76-61 loss. Denver took care of business in the paint, recording 14 of its 27 points in the lane.
