DENVER – The University of Denver men's tennis team lost to Rice 4-3 by the narrowest of margins on Sunday at Denver Tennis Park.
Both the doubles point and the deciding singles match came down to a final-set tiebreak with Rice edging out wins over Denver in both.
Doubles:
DU's No. 2 doubles team of junior
Nicolas Herrero Cuesta and sophomore
Daniel Sancho Arbizu won their second-straight match to begin the season, though the doubles point would go to Rice after the team of Zemel/Kapasi won an extended tiebreak 9-7 over DU juniors

Singles:
DU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in singles with straight-set wins from Sallay on Court 3 and Sancho Arbizu on Court 2. Herrero Cuesta added another point for Denver with a 6-2 win in the third set.
The match came down to the Court 4 matchup between Denver graduate student
Conner Olsen and Rice's Emir Sandogan. Olsen rallied back after losing the first set with a late break in the second. The third set went to a tiebreak where Sandogan would win 7-4 to win the clinching point.
Up Next:
DU travels south to Northern Arizona on Saturday, January 28, before returning to Denver to host Air Force and Montana State on February 3 and February 5.
