Denver Hosts St. Thomas in Summit League Home Opener

DU begins 2023 with season’s first home League game on Thursday

DENVER  – The University of Denver women's basketball program will welcome St. Thomas for DU's first Summit League home game of the year on Thursday, January 5, at 6 p.m. MT.

Who: Denver (5-8, 1-1 Summit League) vs. St. Thomas (5-9, 0-4 Summit League)
What: Game 14 of the 2022-23 Regular Season
Where: Hamilton Gymnasium (Denver, Colorado)
When: Thursday, January 5, 2023 – 6 p.m. MT

SERIES HISTORY:
Denver and St. Thomas met for the first time ever during the 2021-22 season, splitting the teams' two Summit League games with the home team winning each time. The most recent meeting came in Denver on February 24, 2022, resulting in a 66-63 DU win. St. Thomas will host the teams' second meeting of the season on February 4.
 
LAST TIME OUT – Oral Roberts 88, Denver 70
Despite a strong first quarter and three Pioneers finishing with double digits, Denver fell to Oral Roberts on the road on December 31. Makayla Minett notched her third-consecutive double-double, logging 21 points and 16 rebounds while adding four assists and three blocks. Joining her were Emma Smith and Mary Wilson with 16 and 12 points, respectively.
 
NOTES:
  • Minett ranks ninth in the country in blocks per game (2.54) and 11th in total blocks (33). She also ranks in the top 20 nationally for offensive rebounds per game (3.9), overall rebounds per game (10.5) and total rebounds (136).
  • Wilson made just her second start of the season at ORU, finishing with three first-quarter three pointers.
  • Thursday's game will be the first at home for the Pioneers since December 12.
  • The Summit League has announced that DU's home game against Omaha has been rescheduled for January 16 at 1 p.m. MT. The game was originally scheduled for December 21 but was postponed due to weather in Denver.
