FARGO, North Dakota – The University of Denver women's soccer team (9-2-5, 5-1-1 Summit) dropped a 1-0 decision at North Dakota State on Thursday in DU's penultimate match of the regular season.
After sitting knotted up at 0-0 at halftime and with three shots a piece, freshman goalkeeper
Molly Wissman maintained the even scoreline with a save on a penalty kick in the 66
th minute. Just minutes later, an NDSU shot bounced off the bottom of Wissman's crossbar before Paige Goaley settled the rebound for what would be the deciding goal.
SIGNIFICANT STATS:
- DU held NDSU without a corner kick, the third time a Denver opponent didn't earn a corner in a match this year and the second time in Summit League play.
- Wissman's four saves matched her second-most in a match this year, behind only the seven shots stopped at Milwaukee on August 27.
- It was a new career best in a Summit League match for the freshman.
- Thursday was the ninth time this season that Denver held its opponent without a goal in the first half.
- NDSU's six shots on target equaled the most DU faced from a Summit League opponent this year (also South Dakota State on October 5).
FIRST HALF:
35' | An NDSU attacker dodged a challenge from Wissman and got a low-speed shot off, but sophomore
Hannah Tate intercepted it to keep it clear of the net.

SECOND HALF:
66' | NDSU earned a penalty kick, but Wissman dodged to her left and kicked the ball out clear.
69' | An NDSU shot ricocheted off the bottom of the crossbar. In the following scramble to locate the ball, NDSU's Paige Goaley got to the ball and snuck it past Wissman.
75' | Wissman made another shot off an NDSU attempt to her left, and the follow-up shot from NDSU went wide of the left goal post.
87' | With the Pioneers still battling, junior
Samantha Dreiling took possession of the ball following a corner kick and tried to dip her shot under the crossbar, but it landed on top of the net.
