DENVER – University of Denver gymnast and alumna
Lynnzee Brown will compete at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, beginning on Sunday, October 22.
Brown, who represents Haiti, will compete in Subdivision 2 of 3 of the women's qualification, set for 2:30 p.m. local time/11:30 a.m. MT on Sunday. She will seek a spot in the women's all-around final on Monday, October 23, where one individual all-around berth to the 2024 Olympic Games will be available.
In Sunday's Subdivision 2, Brown will begin on bars and will rotate with a mixed group with athletes from the Dominican Republic and Barbados. Also in her subdivision are the teams from the United States and Argentina, and another mixed group with athletes from Costa Rica, Venezuela and Peru.
To qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Brown must advance to Monday's all-around final and then finish with the highest score, excluding gymnasts from countries that have already secured team berths and gymnast who have already secured their own individual berths.
This weekend will be the third elite international competition for the Denver alumna. A month after her final collegiate competition, she made her elite debut at the 2023 Pan American Championships on May 27 in Medellin, Colombia, and finished 17
th in the all-around to qualify for the 2023 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships.
At the World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, earlier this month, Brown became the first Haitian gymnast to compete at such an event and placed No. 82 in the all-around.
The Raytown, Missouri, native concluded her six-year career at the University of Denver with a program-record fourth-place finish in the all-around at the 2023 NCAA National Championships. She left DU as one of the most decorated gymnasts in program history, winning an NCAA national title on floor in 2019 and four Big 12 Conference championships including in the all-around in 2021. In total, she accumulated 20 WCGA All-American honors during her collegiate career and set Denver records for all-around score (39.825) and most career perfect 10.0s (five).
