SANTIAGO, Chile – University of Denver gymnast and alumna
Lynnzee Brown placed No. 13 in the all-around final at the 2023 Pan American Games on Monday.
She finished the competition with a 48.133, a new personal best in elite competition.
Brown began the day on bars and introduced an upgrade from her collegiate routine with a toe-on full before going into her normal release series of Maloney to Pak to Van Leeuwen. However, she was forced to modify her dismount into a double tuck but still secured an 11.000 – just .066 off her score in qualifying.
In the second rotation, she scored an 11.533 on beam, improving on her qualifying score by more than two tenths and only one tenth lower than her previous best score from the Pan American Championships in May.
On floor, she again competed her modified 2019 NCAA routine but once again executed her upgraded middle pass of a back one-and-a-half to a front full. She scored a 12.200, an improvement of more than three tenths from qualification and her best score yet on the event since the beginning of her elite career.
She finished the competition on vault with her Yurchenko 1.5 and equaled her score of 13.400 from qualifying, which was only one tenth from her high score achieved at the 2023 World Championships.
Of the gymnasts who were eligible for the individual qualification spot to the 2024 Paris Olympics, Brown placed fourth.
The Raytown, Missouri, native concluded her six-year career at the University of Denver with a program-record fourth-place finish in the all-around at the 2023 NCAA National Championships. She leaves DU as one of the most decorated gymnasts in program history, winning an NCAA national title on floor in 2019 and four Big 12 Conference championships including in the all-around in 2021. In total, she accumulated 20 WCGA All-American honors during her collegiate career and set Denver records for all-around score (39.825) and most career perfect 10.0s (five).
