Pioneers Clinch Share of Summit League Title with Sweep Over ORU

DENVER, CO --The Denver volleyball team secured a three-set sweep (25-22, 25-23, 25-9) against the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles Wednesday at home at Hamilton Gymnasium.

The conference victory improved Denver's record to 13-11 overall and 12-4 in Summit action. The Pioneers amounted an undefeated record at home this season and a portion of the 2023 Summit League regular season title.

"I'm really proud of our performance tonight," coach Megan Pendergast said. "I don't have the words to say how much this senior class will mean to this program. They kept it together and were able to lead this group and put us in a position that gives us the opportunity to fight for a championship."

The Pioneers were led by a double-double from Cassie Davis, who registered 14 kills and 12 digs on the day. Ava Reynolds also added nine kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Gianna Bartalo chipped in for with 17 digs to go with four blocks from Cadi Boyer.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Pioneers opened up an early one set to none lead, winning the first set 25-22. Denver never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 21-20 in a set that had just one lead change before the Pioneers took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 2 | Denver carried momentum from a set-one win by securing a 25-23 victory in the second set. The Pioneers survived a back-and-forth set to win in a stanza that featured four lead changes and was tied 12 times. Neither team led by more than four points along the way.

SET 3 | Denver took set three to finish off the match. The Pioneers scored first and never trailed in the set to secure a 25-9 victory. Denver ended on a high note, claiming its biggest lead, 16 points, to finish off the set. The Denver offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.
