Pioneers Sweep South Dakota State, Advance to Semifinal

VERMILLION, SD --The Denver volleyball team got the job done in straight sets (25-20, 25-21, 25-15) to defeat the South Dakota State Jackrabbits Sunday at Sanford Coyote Sports Center.

The win boosted the Pioneers' overall record to 14-11 on the season.

Cassie Davis finished with 13 kills on the day to lead the Pioneers offense. Defensively, two players reached double figures in digs as Gianna Bartalo had 18 and Ryen Wilkens had 12. From the front row, Briley Decker and Cadi Boyer each added five rejections.

SET 1 | The Pioneers earned a set-one victory 25-20 powered by a solid showing on the attacking end. Denver put together a .378 attack percentage with 18 kills in the set victory. The Pioneers ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four South Dakota State attacks.

SET 2 | Denver won the second set 25-21 to quickly grab a 2-0 lead. The Pioneers never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 10-9 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Pioneers took over. The Denver offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

SET 3 | Denver finished off the match in a 3-0 sweep after taking set three. The Pioneers led from the opening point on in the set to secure a 25-15 victory. Denver opened up as much as a 12 point lead at 18-6 before finishing off the set. The Denver offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
