COMMERCE, Texas --The University of Denver men's basketball team was led by 31 points from Tommy Bruner in a 71-61 victory over Texas A&M Commerce on Sunday afternoon at the Field House.
Bruner added five rebounds to his 31 point game to lead the Pioneers (4-3). Jaxon Brenchley helped out with 15 points and eight rebounds and Touko Tainamo chipped in with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Isaiah Carr pulled down four offensive rebounds to lead the Denver offense which grabbed 13 boards and turned them into 12 second chance points.
Denver forced 14 Texas A&M-Commerce turnovers while committing 13 themselves in Sunday's game. The Pioneers turned those takeaways into 17 points on the other end of the floor. Pedro Lopez Sanvicente led the way individually with two steals.

Tommy Bruner finished with 31 points and 5 rebounds

How It Happened:
After jumping out to a 7-5 advantage, Denver went on an 8-0 run with 16:19 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Tainamo, to increase its lead to 15-5. The Pioneers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 42-33 advantage. Denver did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 24 of its 42 points close to the basket.
Denver kept its lead intact before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Bruner's three, to grow the lead to 54-46 with 10:29 to go in the contest. The Pioneers kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 71-61 win. Denver made the most of nine offensive rebounds to tack on seven second chance points out of 29 total in the period.
