DENVER – The University of Denver men's basketball program will begin the home portion of its 2023-24 schedule on Thursday night when the Pioneers welcome Cal Poly to Hamilton Gymnasium. Tip is set for 7 p.m. MT, and the game will be broadcast live on Altitude 2, Summit League Network and 104.3 The Fan HD3.
SERIES HISTORY:
Denver and Cal Poly will meet for the first time on Thursday night.
BRUNER PLAYS HIS 100TH GAME:
On Monday night, fifth-year guard Tommy Bruner played in his 100th college game. Bruner had 23 points and three assists in the loss. Jaxon Brenchley is the only other Pioneer that is expected to reach 100 career games this season, having already made 97 appearances heading into Thursday's home opener.
CRASHING THE OFFENSIVE GLASS:
Denver pulled down a DU DI-best 24 offensive rebounds in the season opener at UC San Diego on Thursday night. Thursday also marked the first time Denver had 20+ offensive rebounds since Jan. 17, 2004 against FIU.
TOUKO'S OPENING NIGHT:
Coming off his international experience with Finland this summer, Touko Tainamo had career highs in points (31) and rebounds (18) in Thursday night's season opener. The seventh double-double of Tainamo's career saw him pull down the third most rebounds by a Pioneer in a DI game, and the most since January 28, 2006 (Yemi Nicholson – 20). The 14 free-throws made in the contest were the fourth-most in a game in Denver's DI history, and the most since Ade Murkey knocked down 14 on February 29, 2020.
