Bruner’s Career Night Leads Denver Past Adams State on Monday Night

Tommy Bruner scores a career-high 37 in the Pioneers return to Hamilton Gymnasium

DENVER  – The University of Denver men's basketball program got a career-high 37 points from fifth-year guard Tommy Bruner to lead the Pioneers past Adams State  89-83 on Monday night inside Hamilton Gymnasium.

Bruner added four assists to his 37-point game to lead the Pioneers (7-5). Touko Tainamo helped out with a double double of 18 points and 10 rebounds and Isaiah Carr chipped in with 14 points coming off the bench.

Led by Isaiah Addo-Ankrah's three offensive rebounds, Denver did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 14 boards that resulted in 21 second chance points.

Notes:
Denver knocked down 20 free throws in the first half, shooting 20-of-22 from the stripe in the opening 20 minutes.
Monday night marked the third half this year that Denver has made 20 free-throws (11/15 vs. Nicholls and 11/9 vs. Cal Poly). 

Tommy Bruner finished with 37 points
Bruner finished in double figures for the 14th-straight game and the 84th time in his career.
Bruner finished with 20+ points for the seventh time this season and the 15th time in his career.  
Bruner finished with 30+ points for the third time this season and the fourth time in his career.

Touko Tainamo finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Tainamo's double-double was his third of the season and the ninth of his career.
Tainamo finished in double figures for the ninth time this season and the 38th time in his career.
Tainamo finished with 10+ rebounds for the third time this season and the 14th time in his career.

Isaiah Carr finished with 14 points and 4 rebounds.
Carr finished in double figures for the second time this season and in his career.

How it Happened:
After falling behind 20-18, Denver went on a 12-0 run with 7:29 left in the first half to take a 30-20 lead. The Pioneers then added four points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 46-32 advantage. Denver took advantage of 10 offensive rebounds to score 17 second chance points out of 46 total in the period.

Denver kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run to grow the lead to 85-78 with 1:14 to go in the contest. The Grizzlies narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Pioneers still cruised the rest of the way for the 89-83 win. Denver got out on the break in the period, scoring nine fast break points.
