FORT COLLINS, Colo. --The University of Denver men's basketball team had a four-point lead at halftime, but couldn't overcome a second-half [12/13] Colorado State run in a 90-80 loss on Wednesday night inside Moby Arena.
The Pioneers (6-4) had two players score in double figures, led by Tommy Bruner, who had 28 points and eight assists. DeAndre Craig tacked on 16 points off the bench and Pedro Lopez-Sanvicente and Touko Tainamo added nine points.
The Denver offense was strong from deep, making 10 threes on 21 attempts. Bruner hit four treys for the Pioneers in the contest.
Notes:
- Wednesday was Denver's closest game against a ranked team since a trip to Kansas State on November 12, 2018, and the second closest since they last beat a ranked team in 1971.
- Denver ended the first half on a 17-5, and finished 8-for-14 from three in the opening 20 minutes.
- The Pioneers made 10 three-point field goals tonight, the fourth time Denver has reached double-digit triples this season.
Tommy Bruner finished with 28 points and 8 assists.

How It Happened:
After falling behind 8-2, Denver went on a 9-0 run with 15:33 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Deandre Craig, to take an 11-8 lead. The Pioneers then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 39-35 advantage. Denver relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down eight shots to account for 24 of its 39 points.
Colorado State proceeded to take a 47-43 lead before Denver went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Isaiah Addo-Ankrah's three, to seize a 51-47 lead with 14:14 to go in the contest. Colorado State re-asserted control, outscoring the Pioneers 43-29 the rest of the way to hand Denver the 90-80 loss. Denver got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 17 of its 41 total points.
