DENVER – The [18/17] University of Denver men's lacrosse program, presented by Your Hometown Toyota Stores, will open head coach
Bill Tierney's final season with Utah on Saturday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. Faceoff is set for 12 p.m. MT, and will be broadcast on Pioneer Vision and 104.3 The Fan HD3.
DI Series History vs. Utah
The Pioneers are 3-0 all-time against Utah, defeating the Utes 15-6 at PBLS in 2019 before earning a pair of one-goal victories in the season openers of 2021 (home – 9-8) and 2022 (away – 14-13).
Last Meeting vs. Utah
Ted Sullivan and
JJ Sillstrop netted four goals apiece to carry the Pioneers past Utah in Denver's first trip to Salt Lake City.
Bill Tierney's Final Season
Head coach
Bill Tierney will roam the Peter Barton sidelines for his 14
th and final season in 2023. Tierney enters the game at 157-54 at DU and 429-147 in his 39
th season as a college head lacrosse coach.
All Across the Country
The 2023 Denver Pioneers have players from 19 different states, bringing the program's total in the Division I era to 35 different states. The 2023 Pioneers added three new states to the program's list: Iowa (
Michael Provenza), Kansas (
Cade Eldred) and Utah (
Chris Caldwell).
