ANCHORAGE/GIRDWOOD, Alaska – Nordic senior
Bernhard Flaschberger and alpine junior
Nora Brand of the Denver Pioneers ski team claimed individual conference titles on Friday at the 2023 RMISA Championships in Alaska.
Flaschberger won his second race of the season by winning the men's 10K freestyle at Government Peak Recreation Area and has now finished in the top five in all five freestyle distance races this year. Brand won her second career race in as many days, earning the RMISA women's slalom title after also winning slalom on Thursday in the Alaska Anchorage Invitational at Alyeska Resort in Girdwood.
As a team, the Pioneers are in third place entering the final day of racing on Saturday, featuring the men's and women's Nordic 20K classical.
Sophomore
Andreas Kirkeng joined Flaschberger with a top-five result in the 10K freestyle, while
Elijah Weenig was the third scorer for the Pios in 20th. In the women's 5K freestyle, freshman
Selma Andersen (11th), junior
Hanna Ray (T-16th) and senior
Emma Larsson (24th) were DU's three scorers.
Freshman
Sara Rask also placed in the top five in women's slalom, finishing fourth for her eighth-straight top-five result of the year. Fellow rookie
Mia Hunt scored for Denver's women as well in eighth—tying her first best of the year (also eighth in slalom 2 at DU Invitational).
DU's men's slalom group was led by freshman
Thomas Hoffman in 14th, freshman
Jack Bowers in 17th and sophomore
Cooper Cornelius in 19th.
Utah's Wilhelm Normannseth won the RMISA Championship in men's slalom while Ute teammate Novie McCabe won the women's 5K freestyle.
