DENVER – University of Denver freshman
Louise Wikander was named the TicketSmarter Summit League Women's Tennis Peak Performer of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
The Helsingborg, Sweden, native won both of her matches in DU's 7-0 sweep of Montana State on February 24 including a straight-sets win after being substituted into the No. 2 singles spot at the last minute.
The freshman first logged a 6-1 win in No. 2 doubles with fifth-year student
Taylor Melville before finding herself in the No. 2 singles slot for the first time in her career. She dropped just two games in each set to earn the win over MSU's Mirte Van Baelen.
This is the first Summit League weekly award of Wikander's career and the sixth in a row for DU. In total, five Denver student-athletes have won a Peak Performer of the Week nod from the League: Melville (twice), sophomore
Andrea Burguete Beltran, senior
Britt Pursell and freshman
Claudia Martinez de Velasco.
No. 39-ranked DU hosts Wyoming on Wednesday, March 1, before hosting its first two Summit League matches of the season: Omaha on Saturday, March 4, and St. Thomas on Sunday, March 5. All matches will be held at Denver Tennis Park.
