DENVER, CO --Tommy Bruner, Touko Tainamo, and Lukas Kisunas combined to score 44 of Denver's 57 total points, but the Pioneers fell to the St. Thomas Tommies 68-57 at home Saturday.
The Pioneers (13-13, 4-9) had three players score in double figures, led by Bruner, who had 23 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Tainamo added a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds and Kisunas helped out with 10 points and six rebounds.
Tainamo pulled down seven offensive rebounds to lead the Denver offense which grabbed 13 boards and turned them into 15 second chance points.
How It Happened
After falling behind 27-18, Denver went on a 7-0 run with 2:46 left in the first half to narrow its deficit to 27-25. The Pioneers deficit remained the same as they entered halftime trailing 30-28.
St. Thomas kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 61-47 advantage before Denver went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Justin Mullins' jumper, to shrink the deficit to 61-52 with 4:48 to go in the contest. St. Thomas responded and outscored the Pioneers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 68-57. Denver made the most of seven offensive rebounds to tack on nine second chance points out of 29 total in the period.
