GRAND FORKS, ND --The Denver men's basketball team could not keep up in an 86-63 loss to the North Dakota Fightin' Hawks on the road Thursday.
The Pioneers (13-14, 4-10) had three players score in double figures, led by Tevin Smith, who had 17 points. Lukas Kisunas tacked on 11 points and Justin Mullins helped out with 10 points.
The Denver defense was a problem in Thursday's game, forcing 13 North Dakota turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 14 points on the other end of the floor. Tommy Bruner's three steals led the way individually for the Pioneers.
How It Happened
Denver struggled out of the gate, falling behind 43-29 heading into halftime.
Denver could not pull any closer in the second half, losing by a final of 86-63. Denver took care of business in the paint, recording 22 of its 34 points in the lane.
