BOULDER, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association announced over the weekend updates to the alpine regular season schedule after the giant slalom races at the Montana State Invitational on Jan. 31-Feb. 1 were cancelled due to weather.
The women were able to complete one run in their GS race on Jan. 31, but significant snowfall at Bridger Bowl Ski Area led to race organizers determining it was unsafe to continue the competition.
RMISA decided to cancel the remainder of the MSU Invite and make it into a Nordic-only meet, with Utah finishing with the team victory. The one run of women's giant slalom will be reclassified as an Alpine Qualifier, counting as an official college race and for NCAA Qualification purposes.
The men will match the women in terms of races completed on Wednesday with an Alpine Qualifier giant slalom event at Eldora Mountain Resort in Nederland, Colorado. The men's race will be held prior to the alpine portion of the CU Invitational, with will also feature GS races on Thursday and Friday.
Race organizers in Alaska, who will host the UAA Invitational and RMISA Championships from Feb. 20-25 will attempt to hold another set of GS races for qualification purposes. Any of those races will be considered RMISA Alpine Qualifiers and will count toward NCAA qualification only and not for any particular meet.
