DENVER – The University of Denver men's tennis team (7-6) kicked off a weekend at Denver Tennis Park with a 6-1 win over Idaho State on Friday afternoon.
Doubles:
For the third match in a row, DU won the doubles point, collecting wins on courts 2 and 3. Denver's team of sophomore
Daniel Sancho Arbizu and freshman
Raffaello Papajcik started things off with a 6-2 win in No. 3 doubles while junior
Nicolas Herrero Cuesta and redshirt senior
Anish Sriniketh clinched the point for DU with a 6-3 win in No. 2 doubles.
Denver's top doubles team of juniors
Peter Sallay and
Charlie Miller were up 5-4 when the match was left unfinished.
Singles:
DU's singles players won five straight matches following the doubles win – four of them coming in straight sets.
Sallay got things started with a 6-3 6-4 win in No. 3 singles, and graduate student
Conner Olsen followed close behind in No. 4 singles, winning 6-4 6-1.
Herrero Cuesta won the clinching point for Denver with matching 6-3 scores in sets one and two on court 1. Papajcik lost just one more game total than Herrero Cuesta in his win in No. 6 singles.
Denver's final point came in No. 2 singles from Sancho Arbizu, who cruised to a 6-2 win in the first set before dropping the second set in a tiebreak. He took the match with a 10-6 win in the match tiebreak.
