DENVER – The University of Denver men's tennis team (8-6) collected its third sweep of the season, topping Purdue, 7-0, on Sunday at Denver Tennis Park.
DU won both doubles matches that were completed before completing a sweep in singles.
Doubles:
For the second match in a row, Denver's No. 3 doubles team of sophomore
Daniel Sancho Arbizu and freshman
Raffaello Papajcik won the first match to wrap up, finishing with a 6-3 score line. DU would add a second 6-3 win, this one from its No. 1 team of juniors
Charlie Miller and
Peter Sallay. In No. 2 doubles, junior
Nicolas Herrero Cuesta and redshirt senior
Anish Sriniketh were leading 5-3 when the doubles point was clinched, leaving their match unfinished.
Singles:
DU went up 3-0 after dropping three or fewer games in its No. 1 and No. 3 singles matches, starting with Papajcik's 6-2 6-1 win, his second of the weekend and seventh on the season. Herrero Cuesta followed shortly after, opening with a 6-2 win in the first set before sealing the win with a bagel.
The clinching match went to Sancho Arbizu in No. 2 singles, 6-3 6-2. Graduate student
Conner Olsen won the first set in a tiebreak and then added DU's second bagel of the day in the second set, joining Herrero Cuesta and Sancho Arbizu with 10 singles wins so far this season.
Sallay used two, 6-1 victories in his three-set win in No. 3 singles while Miller got back in the win column with a 10-8 win in a match tiebreak.
