DENVER – The University of Denver men's tennis team (6-6) is back at Denver Tennis Park this weekend to host Idaho State on Friday, March 10, and Purdue on Sunday, March 12. Matches are set to start at 2 p.m. MT and 10:30 a.m. MT, respectively.
Friday's match against Idaho State was a late addition to Denver's schedule, taking the place of the canceled February 5 match against Montana State after MSU was unable to field a full team.
Last Time Out:
DU traveled to Los Angeles for two matches, first falling 5-2 to host Loyola Marymount on March 3 before rebounding for a 4-0 sweep of Boise State the next day. Denver won the doubles point both days. Four different DU players earned singles wins including sophomore
Daniel Sancho Arbizu, who won the clinching point for Denver against Boise State and was named the Summit League Peak Performer of the Week.
Series History:
Idaho State: Denver is 3-1 all-time against Idaho State, winning their last three meetings – though the most recent match was February 4, 2005, a 5-1 win for DU in Colorado Springs, Colorado. ISU has not made the trip to Denver since March 9, 1999, which was the only time the Tigers claimed a win (5-2). DU and ISU did meet in during the 2022 fall season at the Denver Hidden Duals during which DU won all six singles matches and added a doubles win.
Purdue: Denver and Purdue have split their four previous meetings, though DU has won two of the last three matches. The Boilermakers won the most recent match, 4-0, in a neutral-site match in San Diego, California, on March 21, 2014. The last time Purdue made the trip to Denver (February 2, 2013), Denver earned a 7-0 sweep.
Up Next:
DU concludes its non-conference slate with a trip to UTSA on Wednesday, March 22, and then hosting New Mexico on Saturday, March 25.
