TULSA, Oklahoma – The No. 51-ranked University of Denver women's tennis team (14-4) collected a 4-2 win at No. 68-ranked Tulsa on Friday.
Doubles:
Denver faced a 0-1 deficit following doubles play after Tulsa used wins on courts two and three to win the doubles point. The No. 1 doubles match went unfinished following the 6-4 win for Tulsa's Leather/Zelenchuk on court 3.
Singles:
Denver began its comeback with freshman
Claudia Martinez de Velasco 's straight-set win in No. 6 singles – her team best sixth singles win in a row and her fifth in a row to end after just two sets.
Fellow freshman
Caroline Driscoll gave Denver a 2-1 lead with a 6-2 6-4 win in No. 5 singles, making her the fifth DU singles player to reach double-digit wins this season.
Tulsa evened up the team points at 2-all after winning a second-set tiebreak in No. 2 singles, but DU would win the next two matches to secure the team win. Freshman
Louise Wikander won her 13
th match of the season – all coming in straight sets – with her 6-4 6-3 win on court 4.
Fifth-year student
Taylor Melville clinched the win for Denver in a comeback win in the top singles match. After dropping the first set to No. 93-ranked Laia Conde Monfort, Melville used two 6-4 wins in sets two and three to win her third-straight match and give DU the victory.
Senior
Britt Pursell had split two close sets in No. 3 singles and was in the third set when the match was clinched for Denver.
