TULSA, Oklahoma – The No. 51-ranked University of Denver women's tennis team (15-4) posted its third 7-0 sweep over a Summit League opponent this season with its win at Oral Roberts on Saturday.
Denver is now a combined 21-0 in Summit League matches so far in 2023.
Doubles:
Denver used two, 6-1 sets to claim the doubles point with wins from fifth-year student
Taylor Melville and senior
Britt Pursell in No. 1 doubles and then shortly after from freshmen
Caroline Driscoll and
Louise Wikander in No. 3 doubles.
Singles:
Five of Denver's singles matches ended in two sets with three of them wrapping up with four or fewer games lost. The first to finish was sophomore
Andrea Burguete Beltran in No. 2 singles, losing just a single game in the first set before posting a bagel in the second set.
Driscoll, too, captured a win with a second-set bagel, the second for the freshman this season and the first since March 1. Fellow freshman
Anastasia Simonov was moved into the singles lineup for the first time in more than a month and won her fourth consecutive match – all four coming in straight sets.
Wikander moved to the No. 3 spot for the second time this season and came away with her 14
th straight-set win on the season. Melville moved to a team-best 14-3 on the season with two 6-4 set wins in No. 1 singles.
Freshman
Claudia Martinez de Velasco secured the DU sweep after dropping the first set. She responded with a 6-2 second set and then dominated the match tiebreak, 10-0.
