SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Denver women's golf team received more accolades to end its year on Thursday. Head coach Martha Richards and senior
Anna Zanusso were named Summit League Coach of the Year and Player of the Year in a release by the league.
This is the second straight year that the duo has won the end of year awards from the league.
"Anna has had another great year here at Denver and I am so excited for her to be awarded this honor for a second straight year," Richards said. "She has played some amazing golf all season - her scoring average was under par, she had a ton of great finishes, and she led our team both on and off the golf course. She is a tremendous player and person, and I think she is so deserving of this honor. "
Zanusso continues to add to her storybook career for the Pioneers with her second player of the year award. The senior posted a 72.0 scoring average this season, the lowest in the Summit League and her lowest since her freshman campaign in 2019-20. She set a new career high for rounds of par-or-better with 19, which was also a new program record.
The Italy native picked up for top-five finishes in 2022-23, including two runner-up finishes at The Show and the Summit League Championship. She recorded four rounds in the 60s, with her best round coming on the final day of the Summit League Championship with a 66, helping lead DU to its fourth straight league championship.
Richards added to her legacy at DU, leading the program to its 21st straight NCAA Regional appearance after setting a new tournament record scoring average at the Summit League Championship, Denver's eighth league championship since joining the league in 2013. The Pioneers scoring average of 291.24 was the second lowest in program history.
"I am so honored to have won this award for Coach of the Year," Richards said. "It really is a reflection of this team and their great golf this year, and is also a testament to Annie Collom, our assistant coach, and all she does to make this team and me better on a daily basis. I have always viewed awards like this as a team award, and I am so appreciative of everyone at Denver who makes all that we do possible."
