DU Women’s Soccer Posts 2-2 Draw at Colorado College

Teams trade first-half goals; MacMillan, Glover find first goals of the season

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – The University of Denver women's soccer team (0-0-2, 0-0-0 Summit) and Colorado College played to a 2-2 tie at Stewart Field on Sunday afternoon.

The teams combined for four first-half goals before finishing with a scoreless second half. Graduate student Camryn MacMillan opened the scoring early to put Denver up 1-0 just 30 seconds into the match. CC tied it up in the 16th minute before DU reclaimed the lead with a 25th-minute goal from graduate student Kaitlyn Glover. The Tigers again evened things up in the 34th minute in what would be the final goal of the match.

SIGNIFICANT STATS:

  • MacMillan's goal at the 30-second mark was the fourth-fastest goal in Denver's Division I history and the quickest since fellow graduate student Sydney Sharp scored 29 seconds into 2021 Summit League Semifinal against South Dakota State.
  • Denver outshot Colorado College, 23-7, including 13-1 in the second half.
  • Nine of DU's shots were on target with CC's keeper coming up with seven saves.
  • DU finished with seven shots inside the final 10 minutes of play including three off an 85th-minute corner.
  • Denver dominated the time of possession in both halves, nearly doubling CC's.

FIRST HALF:
1' | Junior Riley Baker gained control off a CC throw in, sending it along to MacMillan who sent it into the back of the net for the quick Denver lead.

16' | CC's Shalom Prince sent a shot past DU keeper and freshman Molly Wissman from 20 yards out.

19' | Glover found her first scoring chance of the day, collecting a feed from Baker up the middle of the pitch, but CC made the save.

25' | MacMillan tapped the ball up to Glover, who juggled around the CC keeper to the left and easily found the back of the net.

32' | Graduate student Hannah Gallegos collected a DU corner and sent it toward senior McKenna Dannenhauer inside the box, but her shot went wide right.

34' | CC traveled down the right side of the pitch, ending with Alex Sandoval sneaking the ball past Wissman to level things at 2-2.

SECOND HALF:
60' & 61' | DU earned two scoring chances within one minute, starting with a shot wide from junior Ella Frost and then ending with a CC save off a Dannenhauer shot.

74' | Dannenhauer tapped the ball through the CC back line and connected with Ivins, who was narrowly ruled offside just inside the penalty area.

76' | Sophomore Lily O'Grady connected on Denver's 10th corner of the day and put her header on target but wasn't able to beat the keeper.

85' | On DU's next corner attempt, the ball bounced around the box with O'Grady, Glover and Gallegos all getting quality shots off but not able to get it past the keeper.

86' | Denver earned its 12th and final corner, seeing freshman Michaela McGowan send the ball over the net. Glover gained quick control off the goal kick but sent the ball wide right.

89' | Just two minutes after returning to the match as a substitute, MacMillan had the chance to land the game winner but sailed the ball too high.
