MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin – The University of Denver women's soccer team (0-0-3, 0-0-0 Summit) finished with its third straight tie to open the 2023 season, finishing 0-0 at Marquette on Thursday night.
The match was delayed more than two and a half hours due to lightning in the area, with kickoff finally happening at 7:45 p.m. local time.
SIGNIFICANT STATS:
- This is the first time in DU's Division I history that it has recorded three consecutive draws and only the third time Denver has had back-to-back ties (also on September 30 and October 5, 2012; and September 6 and 8, 2002).
- DU again had more shots than its opponent, putting up a 13-4 shot margin on Thursday night. Over the last two matches, Denver has outshot opponents, 36-11.
- For the second match in a row, junior Riley Baker set a new career best for shots in a single match, this time with four total shots.
- Senior defender Jordan Crockett found her first two shots on target of the season, putting both of her shots on goal and matching her personal best for a single match.
- Sophomore Isabella Chidiac made her 2023 debut, subbing into the match in the first half and playing 16 total minutes. She has now made appearances in five career matches.
FIRST HALF:
28' | Baker shot from 25 yards out but sent the ball just a couple feet too high over the net.
42' | Junior
Ella Frost sent a well-placed cross into the box. Fellow juniors
Jadyn Goodrich and
Kiera Flanagan are there to meet it, but the resulting scramble stayed outside the back of the net.
SECOND HALF:
67' | Crockett sent a ball into the box from 30 yards back and found graduate student
Kaitlyn Glover, who put her header on target but into the MU keeper's hands.
74' | Junior
Megan Prazich opted for a low free kick into the box but placed it just inches out of reach of graduate student
Hannah Gallegos, who was approaching the net from center.
75' | Freshman
Molly Wissman got up to successfully prevent a Marquette goal from sneaking in under the crossbar.
90' | Wissman preserved the 0-0 score after MU bounced a shot into the penalty area and challenged the freshman to come up with the awkward save.

Denver (0-0-3, 0-0-0 Summit) continues play in the Milwaukee Challenge Cup when it takes on Milwaukee on Sunday, August 27, at 1 p.m. CT/12 p.m. MT. DU returns home to host Northern Colorado on Thursday, August 31, at 7 p.m. MT.
